Woody Woodpecker in My Tree

When I was outside this afternoon, I heard the familiar sound of Woody Woodpecker in my tree.

Hi Woody. Do that laugh of yours for me!

Most woodpeckers make a really fast tapping noise, but these pileated woodpeckers go slow and it sounds more like thunk-thunk-thunk. I always hear them before seeing them.

If I could spell out that crazy laugh Woody did, I’d write it here. But I can’t. So you’ll just have to do it yourself.

Free Bird!

Jimmie Van Zant, of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Van Zants, played at Skippers tonight. I think I had way to much fun listening to music, yakking with old and new friends and maybe a bit too much Corona….Good thing I brought my driver with!

Tonight was definitely the night to yell out “FREE BIRD”.  And no one was disappointed because it was the encore.

Jimmie is helping out on the guitar solo of Free Bird!

Isn't this a perfect picture for Southern Rock?

Squirrel’s Rainy Retreats

It was raining hard today… as usual in July in Florida. I’ve seen a squirrel hide out in the little nook in my big laurel oak before:

How cute is this little squirrel? It's trying to stay dry in a little hollow nook.

Today, there was an extra visitor trying to stay on the dry side of the tree. His spot doesn’t look nearly as comfortable as the one higher up.

Top squirrel looks comfy. Bottom squirrel is doing the splits!

Me and Bobby McGee

At concerts when everyone else is yelling “Free Bird”, I usually request “Bobby McGee”.

Kris Kristofferson played in Tampa last night and I didn’t even have to wait for it. He played it within the first 10 minutes. He did a one man show with his guitar and harmonica. At almost 75, he still has ‘it’…. and a huge library of songs he’s written during his life.

Kris Kristofferson still rocks the audience with his laid-back style.

Jonny and Jimi

Jonny Lang has been my fav since 1999 when he was 18. Saw him recently at the Tampa Bay Blues Fest. His latest gig is in a band called ‘Experience Hendrix’.

Anytime you can get Jonny, Jimi and Dylan collaborating, it’s a good day. Here’s a recent appearance on TV last night.
