Ever Hear of an Oven Bird

Yesterday evening, my cat and I heard a loud thump. It was funny because at the same time, we both looked around then back to each other (she was sitting in front of my computer monitor). Her eyes got big and we decided to go see what made the noise.

Looking out my front window, I expected to see a branch that may have fallen out of the tree. But instead, I saw a little bird laying on its back on the patio. It was a rainy day, so I went out to see if it was ok.

It wasn’t totally knocked out but it was breathing hard and not moving. So I picked it up figuring to put it somewhere safe until it came back to its senses.

stunned oven bird in my handI took it to the back patio and put it on the old towel I keep there and set it on a chair where it would be relatively safe and able to stay dry and warm.

I came back in the house to look up what kind of bird it was. I’d never seen one like that before. Figuring it was some type of warbler, I looked in that section first and found it right away. It was an Oven Bird. Now what kind of name is that???

I checked on little ‘OB-wan’ after 30 minutes and it was still the same. About 90 minutes later and just before dark, I went to look again. It was still on the towel but as I approached, it flew away.

Poor little guy really conked himself!  I hope he’s on his way back up north where he belongs this time of year.
