My New Bird Feeder
My poor old green feeder finally died. For the past week, it kept falling off the hanger and cracking. All the ground eaters (squirrels, doves, mice) loved that because all the seed dumped onto the ground.
So I went to Lowes and bought a new one yesterday afternoon. Then I managed to leave it on the counter at the register and the cashier lady came running after me with it as I was driving off.
Anything new for animals is a big deal and this feeder really put them in a tizzy. I’ve had that green one and a blue one just like it for years now. So the birds were really used to the straight shape.
This morning, everyone spooked at it for hours. They’d land then immediately take off. The only really unusual thing was a mourning dove adopted it and that’s the first time one of them ever got on my feeder here.
By mid-afternoon, everyone has settled into it just fine but it was quite funny this morning to watch the reactions! I’m hoping the somewhat deeper area the seed goes into will make it harder for the seeds to be flung out. Sometimes there are very picky eaters who poke around looking for just the right seed to eat and practically rain seed onto the ground.
