Woody Woodpecker in My Tree
When I was outside this afternoon, I heard the familiar sound of Woody Woodpecker in my tree.
Most woodpeckers make a really fast tapping noise, but these pileated woodpeckers go slow and it sounds more like thunk-thunk-thunk. I always hear them before seeing them.
If I could spell out that crazy laugh Woody did, I’d write it here. But I can’t. So you’ll just have to do it yourself.
Free Bird!
Jimmie Van Zant, of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Van Zants, played at Skippers tonight. I think I had way to much fun listening to music, yakking with old and new friends and maybe a bit too much Corona….Good thing I brought my driver with!
Tonight was definitely the night to yell out “FREE BIRD”. And no one was disappointed because it was the encore.
Squirrel’s Rainy Retreats
It was raining hard today… as usual in July in Florida. I’ve seen a squirrel hide out in the little nook in my big laurel oak before:
Today, there was an extra visitor trying to stay on the dry side of the tree. His spot doesn’t look nearly as comfortable as the one higher up.
Me and Bobby McGee
At concerts when everyone else is yelling “Free Bird”, I usually request “Bobby McGee”.
Kris Kristofferson played in Tampa last night and I didn’t even have to wait for it. He played it within the first 10 minutes. He did a one man show with his guitar and harmonica. At almost 75, he still has ‘it’…. and a huge library of songs he’s written during his life.
Jonny and Jimi
Jonny Lang has been my fav since 1999 when he was 18. Saw him recently at the Tampa Bay Blues Fest. His latest gig is in a band called ‘Experience Hendrix’.
Anytime you can get Jonny, Jimi and Dylan collaborating, it’s a good day. Here’s a recent appearance on TV last night.
Learning To Do the Limb-o
Do you think it’s possible to teach a car to do the limbo?
I came home the other to see this little scene. Lucky for me that I wasn’t home when it happened or else I’d be stuck in the garage. I could probably play the limbo song in my car til I was blue in the face but it still wouldn’t be able to get that low!
Thunder and Arthur
Thunder the dolphin and Arthur the cat are just too cute.
[big sigh] For some reason, the owner of this video decided to make it private – you can’t even watch it on youtube now without an invitation.
A Very Pretty Snake
There’s quite an assortment of snakes in my yard. Most of the time they keep to themselves but occasionally I’ll see one laying around – or scooting off really fast.
This one was just minding his own business in my front yard by the big tree. It didn’t seem to mind me walking all around it taking pictures.
I’ve never seen one this color before. Kind of a light turquoise and black checkerboard pattern. Now I’ll have to figure out what kind of snake it is.
It’s not poisonous – round pupils. Ha ha… how close do you have to be to a snake to see if it has round pupils or slitted ones like a cat?
New Driver
I saw this sign on the back of a car at my local shopping center today. Just had to get a picture of it.
What exactly does that person think 4 feet back is going to accomplish? I’m thinking that I’ll either pass them or stay waaaaay back especially on a hill!
Time Traveling
Doesn’t this look like I time traveled into the future, met Bono, then came home?
Time traveling has always appealed to me – probably why I’ve always watched Dr. Who. But sadly, I didn’t really. This guy is Jon Cleary – a blues musician. I saw him perform at the blues festival this weekend. Bought one of his cd’s and got it signed. It’s good stuff!
